Do You Struggle to Feel Seen and Understood in Your Intersecting Identities?

  • Do stereotypes or overgeneralizations make you feel like an outsider?

  • Have you felt misunderstood because one of your identities feels incongruent with another?

  • Do you feel like you must hide a piece of yourself to be accepted by others—or even by yourself?

Maybe it feels like the parts of you are so vastly different that they can’t be integrated. Or perhaps you’re able to hold space for all the parts of yourself, but finding a community that can do the same has been a struggle. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before, and while the therapist was accepting, they didn’t quite understand your experience. This can leave you feeling isolated, frustrated, or unseen—and now, you’re searching for something that truly resonates with you.

Being QTPOC Is Beautiful—and Complicated

Understanding your queerness often requires deep inner exploration, but this process becomes more complicated when intersecting with cultural expectations. You might come from a culture where queerness is criminalized, where coming out could mean losing your family—or worse, facing danger in your community.

Maybe your culture has rigid gender roles, and identifying as non-binary or trans feels like being caught between worlds. On the flip side, you might feel trapped in the role assigned to you at birth, which brings its own kind of pain. If you’re multiracial or not “visibly” queer, you might grapple with feelings of not being “enough” for any community.

At Open Space Therapy Collective, We See and Celebrate All of You

Our therapists bring their own lived experiences as queer individuals from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. We understand the complexities of navigating a world where your intersecting identities may not fit into the dominant culture’s narratives.

Through a decolonized therapeutic approach, we create space for you to explore how your identities intersect, honoring the nuances of your experiences and the cultural ties that shape them.

Therapy Can Help You Fit the Pieces Together

In therapy, you have the freedom to lay everything out—to examine what fits, what doesn’t, and what you want to leave behind. It’s a space to try on new ways of being, let go of outdated patterns, and create an integrated identity that truly reflects your QTPOC experience.

Our therapists hold multiple intersecting identities and are here to help you explore the subtleties of your unique self. They’ll reflect back what they see, helping you piece together your identity in a way that feels authentic and empowering.

Being QTPOC Means You Don't Always See Your Experience Reflected Back

While representation for QTPOC has improved, it’s still hard to find authentic depictions that reflect your lived experience. Too often, queer and BIPOC characters are reduced to caricatures, making it hard to see yourself in the stories around you. Without real-life role models or realistic portrayals, it can feel like you’re navigating uncharted territory, unsure of how to merge your identities into something whole.

Therapy can be a space to reimagine and redefine your identity. It doesn’t have to be painful or awkward—there can also be joy, exploration, and play as you find ways to integrate all the parts of yourself.
